Fleet safety is a number one priority for all sorts of fleets — public transit, emergency, work and industrial, military vehicles and more. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), traffic fatalities in the U.S. jumped 7.7 percent in 2015 compared to the previous year. Further data indicates that 94 percent of crashes are tied to human error or faulty decision-making. Significantly, many reported incidents are “struck by” accidents, which involve pedestrians being struck by a moving garbage or dump truck. According to statistics, nearly 30 percent of such accidents are due to vehicle reversing without adequate visibility, blind spot checking or warning sounds.
